CELEBRATING THE FREEDOM OF CINEMA
Started in 2016, Belgaum International Short Film Festival is organized annually by Society of Artistic Vision to recognize and help aspiring filmmakers and film enthusiasts. Films are not merely meant for entertainment and over the years, we have seen that filmmakers have used this visual medium to raise their voice regarding global and local issues as well.
Belgaum, a blissfull town surrounded by hills from the three sides, has been a center of art since ages. Located at the border of Karnataka and Maharashtra, Belgaum enjoys the liberty of two languages, Marathi and Kannada. And, this is the reason behind the cultural richness of the city. Drowned in the sweetness of local delicacy, Kunda, the people of Belgaum have always been lovers of art in various forms.
Many famous names in the Indian art scenario have their roots from Belgaum. To name a few, Kumar Gandharva, Shobha Gurtu, Charan Raj, Shirish Deshpande, Sanjay Deshpande, Prasad Pandit and Sulochana Latkar. The city has also given shelter to artists like Atul Kulkarni and P. L. Deshpande.
With digital filmmaking on its boom ride, Short films have become the easiest medium for artists to convey their ideas. And, we will always be striving hard to give the best possible platform and encouragement to all the artists with a voice.
